Your brush left a wash of ink, and it began all this waiting.
The bamboo continues to stand long-necked,
and there is sky because there is no sky.

I know this makes no sense, but the moon hovers above
a layered mountain, trees bend their branches,
    and somewhere the sea begins.

    You are the empty space,
because you are not where you should be.

I like this, Bethany! It all creates its own sense very well. Tom

    Her bonnet is the firmament,
    The universe her shoe,
The stars the trinkets at her belt,
    Her dimities of blue.

There is an Emily Marathon going on at a university near here. Folks sign up and read whatever they want as long as it's Emily.

Bet, I gave you a different intro. and a pinch further in.  Maggie

When the brush left a wash of ink, it began all this breathless waiting.
In the stillness, bamboo continues to stand long-necked.

The moon hovers over a layered mountain. Trees bend around
their branches and maybe, somewhere, the sea.

I know this makes no sense—that there could be sky
    because there is no sky.

You are the empty space, the absence unaccounted for, that exists
simply because above is not where I know it should be.
