I don’t know how Dorinda became
such a good writer. All she does is smoke
Virginia Slims and drink beer. She’s ultra-thin,
I suppose, because the only things she’ll eat
are celery sticks with pimento cheese
and Lay’s Potato Chips.
When I asked her to teach me to write
like she does, she said I need to live
like her. But Dorinda, I said, if I smoke
a cigarette, my brain stops and I hate the taste
of beer. She told me, well go ahead, then.
Waste your life.
