i sit on a decision

the mathematical precipice
of exactly a half bottle of blanton’s
and the bare avoidance of a hangover

so i take a slow puff of cuba

and a
sloooow-er walk outside

to my porch
and have a sit
to think on this

to find myself
staring at the backyard
neighbor’s streetlight

staring and
watching
and doubling it
into two lights

a starburst
white glowing
surrounding the light post
the yard, the house
and my neighbors inside
(do they know how lucky)

and then blink

blink

and feel the solar system as it is

and smile
and frown

and finish my cigar in disappointment
and crawl to bed
in the brown fog
of another night

left on earth
