I wear a moon-shaped scar
on my knee

and each time I shower
it reminds me of the day I fell
from the red brick wall
into Grandma’s backyard

how she dabbed it with TCP
strapped it tight
to stop the bleeding

how the next day
she collapsed in a heap
on the stairs

and how I wore
that bandage
to her funeral.
