  The Calendar
« on: May 05, 2012, 02:35:39 PM » by William Antcliff

Days when I follow you,
“but” by “but”.
Days when you follow me,
tut by tut.

This is lovely, Will.  Says so much in those few words, and delightfully too.

What great little parades, Will! Very nice.
Puzzle by the buts in quotes and not the tuts.

Tom,
thanks...

I did not quote the tutting partly because it gives slight variation, but, more importantly...I am not sure the act of tutting is an act of using a word. I genuinely don't know. I wouldn't put waving in quotes..closer to that? Interesting.

I wonder what Peter thinks?

Will.

Yes:  tut a sound, but a word

ah.
can see the "tut" being accompanied by a finger side to side finger wag
can also see the "but" accompanied by a forward finger wag!
I agree though, will defer to Peter's best judgement.

Tom,
Yes I can imagine the forward finger wag!

Still, I think the world does not need more quote marks, so...

"Parades". I liked that Tom.

No problem, guys.  Feel free to consult me on not only fine punctuational points but also, having been in the roofing trade, any queries about your cleats or overhang.

Will,

Really nice! Works so well, content and form in perfect harmony.

Enjoyed, and one that will stick in the memory bank.

Peter, do you know if there has ever been a poem about a roofer? I draw a complete blank on that.

Ah...yes Tom.

My sister - I now recall - mentioned something about him (her in laws being of Edinburgh). Thanks, I'll look into him.

Have you seen my piece, 'DIY advice, taken from local paper', in submit you prose?  I wonder if Peter could check it out for accuracy?
