Yea,
I can talk to my mother now
she sits still enough, afraid
any sudden movements will
scare me off
I tell her about how
I’ve discovered divorce
it comes in stages even if
you thought it would last forever
it doesn’t, and sometimes the bottom
drops out,
then
I tell her about work and my inability
to take proper care of myself is masked
in my confidence that sometimes lies
are the truth, sometimes I tell how clouds
look from atop of my mountain, or childbirth
will be the only painful experience I’ll never regret,
we discuss my medication and why she thinks bio
feedback is better than the chemicals stuffed down,
but I remind her, wanna pick me up in the middle of
nowhere in pajamas-
again?
and she laughs, sips her wine and tonic
no, no
we wouldn’t want that
and then she smiles
yea,
we talk now

EB, this is so good. I enjoyed reading it. A shame what it takes for some people to finally talk and take a moment for each other. Very nice!

Wow. After reading though this several times, I'm left with nothing but appreciation for this poem, EB. The line breaks worked very well for the content, as does the pacing. Very well written; it hit me right in the solar plexus.

So deeply moving and deeply matter-of-fact at the same time, EB, a real pleasure and feat. Tom

This is a cracker, EB. Think you might need some punctuation after 'I'll never regret'. A pick.
Cheers

EB and dodgy punctuation go together almost as well as EB's poems and the Editor's Picks board ;)
Congrats lady!!

I agree with all that's been said, including comma suggested by milner; hits on all burners. Great pick.

I'm picking this just because I want to see it on the Front Page. Nice work.
