VERY fine poem. I especially love the music of it.

It hasn't been easy to choose a poem to represent PC, albeit for a week-- as digging through the archives becomes more and more common, and in general. But I selected this because I felt it really effectively combined emotional resonance with superior craft. We all know how difficult of a balancing act this can be, especially when the topic relates to a tragic event in one's personal life. But 'The Memoir You Never Wrote and I Can't' maintains its fragile intimacy and second-personal feel without sappy metaphors (on the one hand) or an overly distant narrative voice (on the other).
Lynn, it's an honor to make this my first front page pick. Hope your travels are going well, and hope you're still checking the site once in a while!
Take care,
-O

Hmm, it seems I've struck a nerve-- or is this yet another mask? Maybe I've misread you; or maybe you've misread me.

Oleska -- I am at a loss for words. And there's no way for you to know the seconds that tick by while I try to come up with a response. Let me say that the reason I have signed on for a year here in Rosarito, Baja, is principally, principally due to my friend, Judith, who passed away and to whom the poem picked here was written. I suppose because she had dreams that never quite came to pass and living here, in Baja, has been one of mine for such a long time ... and time does run out just as surely as it runs in.
Got a wet face here, my friend. Thanks for the honor.

Um, Lady, when did you end up in Rosarito? Have I been on the outskirts much too long? lol
my favorite:
"I would look for the mother you never pleased
and give her rocks to hold under her tongue until she gets it right
and the moon that you are on the water strikes her as boldly as me."
Love you xo M
