Wow, you all have left me speechless-- what a wonderful surprise! And I mean that-- I never thought this would've been dug up and plastered on the front page, since this is definitely one of my dry spell poems. Thank you, Milner-- for the pick and the predictably perfect preamble. Yaaay!
Take care,

P.S. Yeah, barley wine is just a style of beer, I didn't mean for it to sound pretentious:

Apparently Bass made the first beer that was classified as such (!); I was thinking of the one by Stone Brewing Co., though. Sorry if it still sounds smarmy-- anyway, thanks for understanding!
Take care,

Not smarmy to me. I love the sound of it - barleywine - No idea why, but makes me think of the music, the rhythm, whatever of sting's "fields of barley" line in a much loved song from the past.

Barley wine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Barley wine
or
Barleywine
is a style of strong ale originating in England in the nineteenth century (derived from the March or October beers of the 18th century) but now brewed worldwide. The first beer to be marketed as Barley Wine was Bass No. 1 Ale, around 1900. The term "barley wine" had been used before in other contexts[1], for example in translations of Xenophon's Anabasis[2].

Dear Oleska
Glad to see this was a pick.
Also brought back memories of my first Barelywine
in a London pub back in August 1969.

Lost in a resplendent maze, the task of finding my way to a choice among such a wealth of beautous smelling shrubs, to be the one to blaze for one short week, seemed far beyond my ken and capabilities. I called on all the gods and goddesses created by mankind to aid me; on Zeus, Thor, Jove, Hera, Athene, Poseidon, Diane, Quetzacoatl, Yahwe, the trinitacious Almighty, on all the heavenly hosts. None came to my succour, till, from afar, I heard the notes of a lyre, borne on an Aeolian wind. Orpheus winged in on it and spoke to me thus: " Mortal, search for the one whose naming belies it." I can but obey his command.
Cheers
