where they grow the weed,

the guys who do the picking
are
los ilegales de los ilegales
thick-scarred men who shit
between the rows of plants
alongside mangy dogs
and don't think anything about it
any more than they take notice
of
la gringa
with a scoped Mark V
who sits and smokes Greek dope
or of the county sheriff driving up
to shoot the breeze with her
and lightly thumb through
thin, limp lettuce in his envelope

A bit of American Arcadia, Tom, a real rustic modern scene. Much enjoyed.

Took you there? I thought I saw you there, snoozing in the cab of the gringa's truck!
Thanks, Peter. -Tom

thanks, Silent. not traceable as new bills, but I bet she marks them herself in some other way, as insurance - and the sheriff knows it. Tom
