My (atheist) daughter was going to bed this evening.
me: What would you like for a bedtime story?
she: I would like a poem by William Carlos Williams.
me: You know what the modernists were trying to do? Before the time of Williams, almost everyone was a formalist, and he was trying to shake things up and change how people thought about poetry. And after him, it was never the same.
she: So he was sort of the St Paul of poetry?
