  Winter Lore
« on: March 08, 2010, 03:18:27 PM » by joseph lofgren
There really was a time when winter
crept passed our feet,
snuck through the night to make
mischief out of summer.

That was when we usually trimmed
our summer stalks,
to prepare for standing rain.

joseph, i like this.  it is what it is and doesn't try and hit the reader over the head.  stuff like this, accumulated over time, can be very very effective.

A poet dares be just so clear and no clearer.... He unzips the veil from beauty, but does not remove it.  A poet utterly clear is a trifle glaring.  ~E.B. White

Thanks, John, Cheryl! Resurrected and revised this little ditty. Works nicely, methinks!

I too find this compelling. Wondering if 'standing' couldn't be replaced. It requires an inferencing that seems out of step with S1? Might be me.
