  Show and Tell

A hint or guess of swelling,
a fullness in the thighs.

A certain pride of ownership
apparent in the eyes.

The craft of angling is catching fish. The art of angling is a
receptiveness to those connections, the art of letting one
thing lead to another until, if only locally and momentarily,
you realize some small completeness.

Yes Ken, very fine... so much contained in your 4 lines.
Wonderful how alive you make the word "certain"....

Kevin, SL, Tom--

Glad you enjoyed this piece. I was
on long island mid-summer sundown
when I saw this site all in white--so
beautiful I had to verse it on ice.

Another of your fine sketches; love how this lends itself to any number of things; for instance, i see my daughter just beginning to show with her first pregnancy.  There is about this poem, a some thing that blooms.

Lynn--had I known about your
daughter perhaps we could have
dedicated the poem to her! If she
blossoms anything like her mother
this baby's in for a ripe run at life!
Thank you for your thoughts.
Really, if this poem done with
calligraphy could in some way fit
into your world please do; I have no
proprietary interest in it.

Aw, Ken.  Thank YOU!  My newest grandson is 18 months old now, but I remember that least bit of swell and my girl's pride.  He's a stunner, that little guy.  Thanks, kindly for the offer.  May one day take you up on it (she's now trying for number two).

i'm amazed at how much emotion you've conveyed with such brevity. funnily enough, i didn't necessarily connect it with pregnancy until i read the comments.

Sophie -- for me that's the great thing about really fine work, how it lends itself to the world of the reader.  I didn't think this one was written toward my take on it, but my reading of it took me to that remembrance of my daughter.  [blame it on my gramma-hood status!]  lynn
