Poetry Circle is a forum for discussing our work and not a social networking site. Although we use message boards to post our work and responses, we still want to stay close to the model of a literary journal. The off topic board should be reserved for social interaction and the submit boards should remain on topic, i.e., poetry and prose.
When do comments not help the writer? When comments devolve into chatter that could be viewed as personal or about something other than the writing's effect, we stray from the purpose and begin to sound like a clique.
Potential members who stumble across our site may not understand our true goal if they are confronted with chit-chat and jokes. We have so many new, talented, and friendly members that it has been easy to stray from our stated purpose. Remember, we aren't a club but writers discussing our work.
