I will not adorn
my home
with your flag

or support
your sporting
endeavours.

My allegiance
can not be swayed.

Instead
one day
I will give you a child

with curt, high
vowels,
auburn hair
and ballet shoes.

She will laugh
at her mother’s
eccentricities.

In time she
will notice
my inflections
rising and falling

and ask me
“Where are you from?”
